School Programs

We offer a number of exciting programs that help you teach your students the history of Rome, Georgia, and the world!  Each program is $3.50 per student. Adult chaperones at $4.00. Teachers are FREE.  Click on the pictures below to learn more about the programs we offer.  We can also help tailor a program to your class's needs.

Because of their length (1-1.5 hours) the programs below can stand alone as museum adventures.  Click on the pictures below to learn more about the programs.

World War II: A Soldier's Life

New for younger students

Roaming About Rome:  For younger children, an opportunity to build map skills while learning about Rome’s roads, rivers, and landmarks.  Compares past and present maps and local and world maps.  Uses folk type music to reinforce local geography.

New Educational Components

These shorter hands-on programs can be paired with a basic museum tour for a full adventure.  Allow 30-45 minutes.

Georgia Land Lottery:  Students participate in a recreation of the 1832 Georgia land lottery as they learn why and how the lottery was held and the implications of Georgia’s unique land distribution system.

The Trade Game:  Students assume the roles of a real pioneer family who moved from North Carolina to Georgia in the 1830s and decide what they will need to run a farm and how they can trade to get it.  Students will be able to identify goods that people make and services that people provide for each other.  This one works great with the Lifestyles of the Past Program.

Dashes and Dots:  Students explore the development of the telegraph and Morse Code, learn about the inventor Samuel Morse, and discuss the implications of the telegraph and changes in communication over time.  Students learn to write and decipher Morse code messages.

To make reservations, call 706-235-8051.
