The Rome Memorial Day Committee
and the Rome Area History Museum partnered with the White House
Commission on Remembrance to bring the city of Rome a day of Reflections and
Remembrance. It was a fantastic day! Click on the picture for more photos.

Flag lowering at City Hall |

Displays at Buddy Mitchell Plaza (at Broad St. & Third Ave.) with period weaponry and vehicles such as HumVs and WWII Jeeps |

Barbeque served at Buddy Mitchell Plaza (price to be determined) |

1 pm |
Program at Buddy Mitchell Plaza: award presentation for patriotic student artwork, speech by Colonel Carl Bell (Vietnam helicopter pilot), and singing of Star Spangle Banner by Jamie Barton |

3 pm |
Romans join the nation in observing a quiet Moment of Remembrance |

4 pm |
Parade participants form parade line at Citizens First Bank |

5 pm |
Historical military parade begins at bank and ends at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Soldiers and mourners from every war since the Revolution will be represented in period costume. The parade begins with cannon blasts and a Tiger Flight fly-over in missing man formation which signifies the fallen soldiers. |

6 pm |
Services at Myrtle Hill Cemetery: prayers and song will be followed by a 21-gun salute and the posting of colors at the Tomb of the Known Soldier. |

7:30 pm |
Dinner at Forum - Guest speaker U.S. Representative Phil Gingrey. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Museum. |

Candlelight vigil behind Forum. A solo bagpipe will play Amazing Grace. |
